Fianna and Snowman

Due to generous donors, a young paint mare was saved at auction. She must have come from a great owner at one time. She was easy to catch and seemed comfortable around people. Somehow, we found out that she has been through several auctions and now ended up pregnant from one of these auction pens. Donations came through and she AND her baby were saved. She will never see another auction pen again. Fianna, meaning female warrior, became her name because this little paint mare has been through so much yet still has that will to keep on going. She was further along than expected, so volunteers made quick work of getting her all ready for her delivery.

March 12, 2022, the early morning images (2:30 a.m.) from the baby cam showed that Fianna was giving birth to her foal. It was one of the coldest nights of the year. Snow flurries fell outside, and snow also fell in the stall. Fianna’s baby was snow white and lying in the stall. All video watchers rushed to the farm to get there to see what needed to be done.

Upon arrival, everyone could see that Fianna was nervous. Due to the extra cold weather, volunteers went to work on drying off and warming the foal. Blankets and small heaters were not enough to keep this baby warm. A bullet heater came in and helped do the trick. The next 48 hours would tell what the future held for this little fellow. The mom was super nervous. Either from all the commotion or the fact she was evidently a first-time mother, she would not let him nurse. Everyone cautiously waited and watched, and soon Fianna “warmed” up to her new addition.

The warmer days have given everyone at the rescue a good chance to see the baby. Since he came with a snowfall and his is snow white, he was aptly named “Snowman.” Now, every day is an adventure. Everyone rallies together to keep Mama settled and Snowman steady on his wobbly legs. The warm sunshine has been good for the pair and helped get a better look at this blue-eyed, snow white baby. Mama got over her fears and instinct kicked in and she is one of the best mom’s ever.

Without the donors, the volunteers, and Doc Vise, this miracle would not have been possible. It really does take a village to help rescued horses. The MHR village is the best. The outside world might be falling apart, but in our world, people are rallying together to help the helpless. Each is a vital part of these rescued equines. Their lives will be better and forever safe due to all of you who participate in this process. Keep following Fianna and Snowman on Facebook #mhrfianna. New videos from Tik Tok will show up on this website as they are posted. Thank you once again to all who follow Mississippi Horse Rescue and those who give of your time, money, and kindness. We could not do this job without you.
